It is a day on which we honor our transgendered friends worldwide who have been harmed or killed as a result of hatred, bias, or prejudice. Transgendered people are not only continually marginalized by bigots among the heterosexual community; they are too often marginalized and disparaged within their own supposed "community," as the "T" in "LGBT" is frequently excluded from the L, G, and B.

As a community, we must renew our efforts to include our transgendered friends in legislation affecting L's, G's, and B's, to question and squash prejudices inside and outside the community, to educate ourselves and those in our circles and cities, and to help afford everyone the right to safety, equality, and happiness.

I thought this was gonna be about memories of being transgendered. But srsly... bigots think we are all drag queens/kings anyway, so any gay person who hates on TG people is an idiot.

Its the people who argue that transgender people and the T component aren't a part of our group and should stand on their own two feet that do the harm methinks. Its hypocrisy that they argue this when they're very being as an organisation is to help fight what separates LGBT from mainstream at large and the prejudices we all face, not just those of transgender people. I remember my first LGBT meeting and being surprised by a sister reverend of the franciscan church who used to be a man, and she's one of the loveliest women I've ever met

They need to.... wait, no, I KNOW they've heard Sister Sledge. But they obviously did not pay attention to the lyrics
