Forgive me if I didn't think to include someone; the list was compiled by searching previous threads and a little personal opinion.

If you selected "other," please specify who you had in mind.

For me, although she officially went viral in late 2009, Jonna Lee's project of iamamiwhoami had me on the edge of my seat (and often in awe) for most of 2010.

*Note. My own personal discovery and awareness for Florence + the Machine is partially why she was included in this 2010 poll. Although she did not debut this year, from my observation most wide-spread attention (she was big in the UK last year, the Americans, I think, are just now fully catching on) was bestowed on her this year more than any previous year.

Others mentioned:

Laura Marling
Janelle Monae
Baths
Best Coast

Florence is wonderful but i'd say she was definitely a 2009 newcomer for the forumz. the first post about her on atforumz was all the way back in April of 2009:

Woops! Thanks. She just was such a figure of attention (for me) this year, with her MTV exposure and "Dog Days" literally being everywhere.

I picked "other" - Laura Marling. I know she's not brand brand new, but this was her "breakout" album.

I was actually going to include her. I totally agree.

Out of that list, Zola Jesus by far. As others have said, Florence made it big last year.

Janelle Monae! Sure she had an EP out a few years ago but 2010 was definitely her year.

I went with Nicki. I'm not really even a fan... but theres something exciting about her. Who knows what kind of staying power she has, but 2010 was definitely a more interesting year with her in it.

I voted other, as Marina and Florence were 2009 folk for me really, as was La Roux. (edit: ok, Marina's album was released this year, but she had big singles in 2009.. but the other two were 2009 album releases most defo, no?)

I didn't really get into Janelle Monae despite seeing her live and liking "tightrope" - nothing else really caught me much.

Sleigh Bells - I fucking love "rill rill" but some of their album isn't stuff that I've fallen for much.

So, my vote is for Baths. (ok, you could argue he was around as post-foetus earlier, but different band blah blah blah solo act etc etc ... ) because that was a surprise album that I didn't know anything about before OMA starting talking about it, and then I was even more surprised when I fucking loved it. So, yeah, that's my vote.

Definitely iamamiwhoamaimanaiwhoamaiomainaimaimanaiiahoaaiamaaaaaHHH

Janelle is also good times. :) I will say, I don't get the love for La Roux. That voice could be used as a torture device in Gitmo. *shudders*

^ Agree re La Roux. She's also a snarky cow in interviews

I voted "other" - Best Coast for me. Crazy for You has been in rotation since it leaked.

i voted for Nicki Minaj even though Pink Friday as a whole is a bit disappointing, i find her really fascinating and i think she's hugely talented as a rapper.

I voted for Nicki Minaj too. Love Pink Friday and I've loved her appearances on Kanye and Rihanna's albums.

Florence + The Machine, though she's from last year. I think that in my list of fav albums of '10 won't be any new artist.

No one brought it like Jonna and Claes. NO ONE.
