View Full Version : Shaving My Head for Charity!!

02-05-2011, 11:02 PM
I'm proud to be part of the St. Baldrick's Foundation a volunteer-driven charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization in the world except the U.S. government more than $14 million in 2010 alone. Join us and Let's CONQUER! Look for me at http://www.StBaldricks.org/.

If you can't participate by getting your head shaved... please consider donating to the cause. Either through my donation page (search for Hope Au under "participants") or a solo donation.

Yeah, you're brave! Great cause! So when does the shaving commence? I just saw that you got your hair did in the picture thread.

02-06-2011, 04:07 AM
You are brave! There's a big St. Baldrick's following here in Syracuse and I've considered doing it myself, but for now I just sponsor others!

02-07-2011, 01:22 AM
It varies from state to state. But you can look up events close to where you are by searching with your city and postal zip code. I hope you find something nearby and can participate in some way. I think you can volunteer to put up posters, fliers for local events, or register your company/team to just help collect donations.

Good luck! Will it accept donations from Canada?
I shaved my head for fun when I was 25. It was fun! But I had to wear more makeup than usual to look more feminine.

ETA: yes it accepts CDN, I made a donation :)

Stephanie, YAY!!! <3

I had to check with my boss today to make sure he would be ok with having a front desk person with a shaved head. I said that as long as I wear a wig at work it would be fine. *sigh* I guess that our Chiropractic patients don't want to come here and have to think about cancer... but that's sort of the point. Oh well... at least he said he'd let me hang a poster for the event AND talk to patients about it ONLY if they ask me directly.

02-11-2011, 12:48 AM
I know this will probably get annoying... but I really would love any donations... seriously... if you can afford to spare a few bucks, it would mean the world to me <3
- you can donate through me, I'm registered as Hope Au... you don't have to but it certainly would be awesome ;)

Thank you, Cairn! <3

02-17-2011, 06:09 PM
I'm bumping this thread... well, because I want to and need to. :) My husband is also doing this and his fundraising efforts are kicking my ass! Damnit. I know this is verging on 'spam' but I'm really hopeful and I will take any donation... be it $1.00, $5.00, $10.00, whatever... I know a few of you have already donated (Stephanie and Cairn, you guys are AWESOME! Thank you! <3 ) and I am so grateful! :D

Ok, so I'm gonna step away now and cross my fingers ;) ... I promise that shaved-head pictures (before, during, & after) will be abundant. LOL

03-07-2011, 09:26 PM
Okay, bumping again (sorry) because there are only 3 more weeks until my St. Baldrick's event.
I've raised $200.00 so far (YAY!!!) and I am raising my goal to $300.00... because I can and because I believe that there are those of you out there who can help :)
Here's the link to my participant page http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/participantid/441950 Please click and donate, whatever amount possible.

Thanks so much guys! <3

03-07-2011, 10:03 PM
Donated :)

03-07-2011, 10:18 PM
Becka!!! OMG thank you! You rock my dress socks today! <3 <3 <3

03-15-2011, 07:09 PM
The hubby shaved his head during the lunch hour yesterday, at the middle school where he teaches 7th grade English. I am so proud of him <3

I have one week left until I join him in the rank of the "hair free" ;) Thanks again for indulging me with this thread... and for your donations. They mean the world to me.

03-15-2011, 07:11 PM
wow... he looks like a student!

03-15-2011, 07:38 PM
Right?! I don't know if it's the "half-asian" thing or what. But believe it or not, he's 33. ;)

When he first started teaching at this school (a middle school, 7th & 8th grade, 12-13 year olds), he used to get stopped by the adult hall monitors all the time. He started wearing a shirt and tie everyday, as well as his ID lanyard. LOL

03-15-2011, 08:01 PM
He should start every school year by sitting in one of the desks in the classroom as kids come in until it's a minute or 2 into the class. Then pretend to take over the class. Then announce he really IS the teacher. My (middle-school) daughter would think that was the greatest teacher Ever. :)

You guys are doing a wonderful thing. :)

03-15-2011, 08:04 PM
HA!! OMG that would be hilarious! And he is a pretty kick ass teacher already ;) so this might put him at Best Teacher Ever LOL!

And thanks for the love, Elly! St. Baldrick's is a wonderful organization. What they do for these kids, it makes me happy to help them provide a better life for them and their families. <3

03-22-2011, 05:17 PM
With two days to go, just figured I'd tell ya I'm thinking about you. I hope you met your goal in terms of $ raised. [hug]

03-22-2011, 07:23 PM
Awwwww, thanks Cairn! I can hardly wait! I got my wig for work last week and with only 2 days to go I'm somewhere between anxious and excited ;) Thanks for the love, you are awesome <3

And I met my goal... hoping to get a bit more, a few people at work promised to donate... the huz raised over $700 which makes my $300 looks rather sad LOL but I'm proud that combined we raised over $1000!!! So, I think I'll look at it that way :D

03-22-2011, 07:28 PM
That is totally the way to look at it!

03-23-2011, 04:40 PM
*YAY* I'm so proud of you, Pea! [post28] I can't wait to see you with yo wig on, gurl! hehe

03-23-2011, 05:17 PM

03-23-2011, 05:42 PM
But I want to see you nooooooooooooowwwwww!!!! *in my best Veruca Salt impression*

03-23-2011, 06:08 PM
Great job, Pea! Looking forward to seeing pics :) Do we only get wig pics or do we get bald pics too? LOL You should do a Britney Spears in a rage with an umbrella pose!

03-23-2011, 06:14 PM

LOL!!! I think we can do both wig and bald pics! And the umbrella pic may just happen tomorrow due to the SHITTY weather in Sacramento right now!... If it doesn't happen naturally... perhaps I can just attack my sister with my umbrella and tell her to photograph her DOOM! ;)

03-24-2011, 03:05 PM
5 HOURS!!!! I will be one sheared sheep in about 5 hours!!!

I wanted to thank those of you who donated to the cause on my behalf... Your support has really meant more than I can express here <3 Some of you have been more generous than my on damn family members. So... Thank you. I <3 you guys.

03-24-2011, 03:10 PM
Hear me cheering and doing the wave and stuff.

03-24-2011, 03:12 PM

03-24-2011, 10:15 PM

Me, freshly shaved, with my beautiful shaver Vanessa. <3

So... it's done! It went much quicker than I thought it would... but it's done! And I'm now bald!... my head is cold ;)

03-24-2011, 10:20 PM
Aw, thanks darlin! Don't know about the "hottest"... but I am pretty cool ;)

03-24-2011, 10:54 PM
Wow, what you did was so brave! I would never have the guts to do that! Very inspiring <3

03-24-2011, 10:59 PM
Props to you for raising money & awareness for such a great cause!

03-25-2011, 02:22 AM
You're so awesome! [post28]

03-25-2011, 10:45 AM
COOOOOOOOOOOL!! You look great, and you did a great job!

03-25-2011, 11:22 AM
If we are very good, we will get fabulous wig pictures too!

03-25-2011, 10:49 PM

Ok, it's the much promised WIG PHOTO... taken with my phone... because I'm at work and had a few moments to myself ;)

Thanks again for your support guys <3 LOVE!!!

03-25-2011, 10:52 PM
Holy Cork, but that's a nice wig! Lookin' super good on you.

03-25-2011, 10:55 PM
It's a super great wig! Only $40!!! It's synthetic/plastic but I can "heat style" it... curling iron on low setting and mild bit of flatiron! Rob, my husband, calls it my "black lady wig"... he's such a jerk. (and I think this is because there was a beautiful "sistah" on the tag when I bought it) LOL

03-25-2011, 10:59 PM

03-25-2011, 11:10 PM
Even though it looks good... IT ITCHES SO BAD!!!! AAAARRRGGGHHHHH!!!! *sticks pen in wig*

03-28-2011, 05:10 PM
*head massage for Pea* :D

03-28-2011, 07:28 PM
Owen, you have NO IDEA how much I would let you do that right now! My wig is so itchy. I wish I could just go without it at work... as soon as I can though, it is coming off!!! >_<

Also, I MISS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *cries*

01-28-2012, 12:20 AM
Ooooooooooo guess what I'm doing again!

Donate and help me reach my goal of $300! If you don't know what St. Baldrick's is, it is an AMAZING charity that raises money and awareness for the various childhood cancers. The idea is that people help raise money at various events and then SHAVE THEIR HEADS to stand with the kids that have to lose their hair to their cancer treatments.

I did this last year and had a BLAST! If there is an even in your area (you can search on the website), I highly recommend participating. If not by shaving your head, at least by donating your time and/or money!

01-28-2012, 01:28 AM
i'm going to shave the side of my hair since I chickened out to go full on bald. I donated to my friend's St Baldrick's team, but I'll gladly donate to you too. Good luck and have fun!

Awesome! One day you'll be able to do the full-bald... It's so awesome <3

And thanks for the offer of support! Any amount is appreciated :D

02-08-2012, 08:33 PM
Wooooooo, just a little over a month left! I can hardly wait to be bald again! (Styling my hair is annoying LOL)

Have you checked out my link yet? Click and donate, if you feel so inclined! <3

02-13-2012, 02:10 AM
Exactly 1 month from today! Whoooooooo I'm so excited!!!

I've already gotten a donation from V.K. (it was you, right?)... I'm sorry if I get obnoxious with this but I'm really passionate about their cause/mission. <3

02-13-2012, 02:37 AM
I'm going to shave my head even without doing the charity. I've already got both sides of my head shaved, but I'm waiting for warmer weather to do the whole thing. Good luck with your donations!

*ETA: 1000 post!

02-13-2012, 03:00 AM
Thanks! I feel like I'm messaging and tweeting at everyone I know about this ;)

also, dork LOL

02-13-2012, 05:36 PM
I couldn't think of a more appropriate thread for this. :)

Please support people like SweetPea in her efforts to make bald less necessary.

03-05-2012, 07:08 PM

Can you believe it? I'll be totally bald (again) in a week! I actually am looking forward to having no hair, LOL ;)

Have you thought about donating yet? Because there is still time and it would be AWESOME if some of you could help me raise money for kids with cancer... All you have to do is click the link. Any amount helps $1.00, $5.00, $10.00... whatever you can spare would be amazing. <3

03-08-2012, 12:36 AM

Yaaaayyy!!!! $400 for St. Baldrick's Foundation... freakin' sweet.

No more posts (swear), until I post my BALD photo ;)

03-08-2012, 02:25 AM
congrats! my friend's head shaving day is this saturday. I can't wait to see how it goes. And not to steal your thunder, but I did shave my whole head. I actually wanted to shave my hair for a long time, and kind of used the charity for an excuse. Since I didn't participate, I shaved it anyway:

03-08-2012, 03:15 AM
BAD ASS!!! And sexy mama! I like the eye makeup, too! Really vamps it up ;)... reminds me of a tv character though... can't put my finger on it.

But freaking awesome!

03-13-2012, 02:02 AM

WHAT'S UP?!?!?!?!?! I'M BALD BABY!!!!

03-13-2012, 02:06 AM
Gorgeous. <3

03-13-2012, 03:00 AM
Dayum! Looks good on you! :D

Girl Friday
03-13-2012, 03:01 AM
Way to go!! <3

Makes me wish I had had a charity to say I shaved it for in hs instead of being a badass.

01-15-2013, 06:51 PM
It's that time again!!! I'm going under the "clippers" and shearing my dome for St. Baldricks!

If you are so motivated, I would LOVE a donation towards my "Shavee" participation. If you have any questions about St. Baldricks, why I participate, or anything else about this... please let me know. PM me, ask here, whatever... This organization is something I've become very passionate about and I hope that you'll help me support this amazing ongoing project to help cure childhood cancer! If you can't donate, please pass on this link or at least tell people about the amazing things St. Baldricks does for these kids. Thanks so much <3

01-16-2013, 04:32 PM
Hey, thanks for the red dot... I didn't know that the shaving of my head (and simple request for donations, no pressure, seriously) was so offensive.

Fuck you very much. Dick.

01-16-2013, 04:41 PM
You are a hot bald chick, SweetPea! Seriously! And your passion for this charity is really inspiring. Good luck to you again this year.

02-25-2013, 10:36 PM
Holy cow, how are there only 2 weeks left until my shaving event?! I know there is at least one person around here who doesn't care for my fund raising, but whatever...

If you feel so inclined, please donate. Any amount is welcome <3 Your words of support are awesome, too! Thanks so much :D

02-25-2013, 11:23 PM
Hooray, I have a 'red-dot' troll.

You know what, dipshit. There are a lot of people care about my head shaving event, thank you very much. And the fact that you still can't come and post your "poo-poo-ing" publicly just serves to prove that you're a coward.

Edit to add:
Normally I would just let shit like this go... but fuck that. My husband survived cancer at 18 months and he wouldn't have if it weren't for the pioneering people out there that beg for funding and support from people. Organizations, like St. Baldrick's, St. Jude's, and Shriner's (etc), help with funding for research and support for kids like my husband. I mean, come on. Who wouldn't want to support that? If not financially, then just with passing the word along? Why the fuck would you feel the need to put that down? Why is my support of this organization so offensive to someone? I just don't get it. It's sad, but it also pisses me off because it's pointless. It's just plain mean.

02-26-2013, 12:26 PM
Big hugs. What a jerk. Good luck with your fundraising!

02-26-2013, 05:38 PM
I'm so low on money that I can't even give a tiny donation :(, but I will give you a good luck and a high five for the awesome commitment to St.Baldrick's every year!

02-26-2013, 06:56 PM
Hmm. What poster could be enough of a fucktard to red dot someone for this thread? I wonder..

02-26-2013, 07:21 PM
Really, toriMODE? : /

SweetPea - St. Baldrick's sounds like a great organization and what you're doing is awesome.

02-26-2013, 08:05 PM
Thanks so much for the love guys <3 I really appreciate it. Seriously, warm and fuzzies all up in this bitch ;)

02-26-2013, 08:44 PM
I left you a little sumthin' on your donation page :)

02-26-2013, 09:24 PM
[vibes] <3

03-08-2013, 10:21 PM
I hit my fundraising goal! <3 I'm so exciting for my shaving event on Monday! To the point that I'm almost sick of my hair now... go figure.

Anyway, just thought a little update was in order since I'm so excited and wanted to share the good news :) I'm still a little overwhelmed by the generosity people have shown me this year. AND it feels good to be able to have gathered the funds I did for St. Baldrick's. They're just an amazing organization and I'm so proud and honored to be able to help for a 3rd year.

Thanks for letting me boast and share. <3

03-15-2013, 01:39 AM
Forgot to update!

I've been shaved since Monday night and it was another amazing experience! The event I participated in has raised OVER $71,000.00! And funds are still being donated! Pretty freaking amazing, I think ;)

Here is my shaved dome!
