No sign yet of Warsaw or Luxembourg yet. Bizarrely livenation.pl lists the Oslo show!

I'd love to see more than one show but that's really hard to manage.

WOWOWOOW

Having been away from the site for month and months and really not being in a Tori mood for a long time, getting the e-mail about a new album and tour was a nice suprise!

Question - anyone know what the O2 pre-sale thing entails for the London date? I'm on O2, but not sure what that means in regards to buying tickets?

You'd think that Madrid, Barcelona and Lisbon in Portugal were all big enough cities to get a shot.

Promoters? Album sales? Does she simply not think of herself as being in the Iberian market?

Kind of infuriating that she's playing every capital in Scandinvania/the Nordic countries except Stockholm (and Reykjavik), as per usual. I ferry ride to Helsinki from Stockholm is pretty cheap (15-20 bucks) but since it's on a week day, it still means taking at least two days off.

And the Royal Albert Hall gig is sounding good, wonderful venue.

Not sure why there's an O2 presale at the Albert Hall. The only thing coming up on O2's website at the moment is for the Manchester gig, which is an O2 owned/managed venue. Not sure where the RAH link comes from. Hmmm...

I'd love to try and get to more than just one show this year, But I can't see Tori lowering her prices at concert place like the Albert Hall. Time to do some serious overtime at work I think.

ami t
05-05-2011, 02:32 PM
The problem with the Albert Hall is also that many of the tickets can't be sold through the hall to the general public as they're privately owned by debenture holders. And apart from the arena and the circle, you can't access loads of the stalls and boxes because of this. I've heard there is someone that sells them on behalf of those that hold them, but no idea from where!

I'm so tempted to use the Frankfurt show as an excuse to go back to Germany. We've been talking about going back to Frankfurt for years (lately we've been going to Munich, but I have family in Frankfurt), so I wouldn't just go for the show...but the plane tickets are rick-dickulous.

I guess she doesn't (and to be fair, she probably isn't), but then as she's never bothered coming, it's not really surprising. She's so loyal to some countries, which is great, but I still find it weird to constantly ignore one of the biggest European countries, even if the recorded music market here is dismal.

Nice to see her playing the Grand Canal Theatre in Dublin - it's a gorgeous new venue. I've seen Rufus Wainwright and Joanna Newsom there, and not only is the sound is pristine, but you have a perfect view regardless of where you sit. One of my favourite concert venues for a seated concert at the moment.

Again irritating experience with the ticket sales this morning, the Antwerp show was supposed to go on sale at 10.00 CET but started earlier. No seating plan available on the website of the venue as far as I can see so you don't know what you buy. For Brussels I believe this is the seating plan http://www.bozar.be/downloads/leboeuf_new.pdf but when you buy a ticket you don't even get a seat number, Clic.com sales agency only sends an email with a confirmation that you ordered something, Tori Amos is not even mentioned.

Anyone else hoping that this is going to be a solo tour?
I think that the 2010 solo shows were pretty spectacular so hopefully this will follow that trend.

RedHerring
05-06-2011, 01:19 PM
I've got mixed feelings. The last two shows I saw were in 2009 Amsterdam and 2010 Amsterdam with orchestra. 2010 was the first time I really felt unconfortable with her voice, allthough it got better after three songs. I never had that before, I always thought it was spectacular. I also really don't like the Cher-like presentation. It really puts me off. Why the long hair and botox face? It makes her look older than she could look.
I saw her only once without band in 2005 and even I found that quite boring. So, this is the first time since 1998 I'm not going to buy tickets as soon as they are available, I'm going to wait to see what's coming and taking the risk of not getting tickets at all...

DavidIX
05-06-2011, 01:36 PM
I think the 2005 shows are probably some of her worst solo shows.
But honestly the 2010 solo shows I saw were all top notch

I also downloaded and watched solo shows on you tube etc. And allthough some of them were very good, i really think you have to be a die hard fan to be captured and entertained by them through the whole show. For people not so familiar with her repertoire, it does get a bit boring (according to my friends who i took with me). And stretching the songs also doesn't help.

I tend to drift away from the show sometimes (even the with band ones) and I'm very familiar with the stuff she's playing. I think my husband brought a book along to the first show he came to with me in case he got bored but it was too dark to read!

I'm hoping somehow she takes a small chamber orchestra with her this time around. I'm not a classical music/symphony orchestra geek, so I don't know what constitutes a balanced chamber orchestra, but how cool would it be to see her with around six or eight string/brass/percussion players with her on stage?

The Rome venue is bizarre and its corridors are somehow creepy because of the architecture design, I was seated way too far from the stage so this time I'll manage to spend a bit more to get a better seat...but I heard the acoustic wasn't ace down there.

Hello unforumzed-ers... Part-time lurker, concert-time-set-list-freakout-er, intermittent-ticket-seller-and-buyer here...

I suddenly find myself living in Europe and no longer Australia and, now, resisting the urge to just madly buy tickets to everything and spend three weeks stalking Cher Tori across the contient.

But only for solo-Tori. It annoys me that several shows are on sale without that crucial details being clarified.

That would be a shame. Which hall did she play last time? The Santa Cecilia Hall looks amazing! It says on the website that the concert halls are mainly geared towards classical (chamber) music so leaving the band at home would do the sound a favour *hint hint* ;)

She played in the Santa Cecilia Hall (which yes, is amazing, but weird aswell), I tought the sound was good (I'm not really an expert), but someone else said it wasn't that good, but who knows, it might have been their ears :P And yeah, a small orchestra there would fit indeed, but I really don't think she'll tour with an orchestra, too expensive for so much dates. Maybe some strings?

It's quite possible that the venue can be accommodated for a more "intimate" setting, but the reality is that the venue is an ice hockey arena and that's the only official capacity I could find.

She played similar venues (with special setups) in North America on the 1st Scarlet's Walk leg, so I doubt she or her management are realistically expecting to have a full house. But it is her first proper show in Finland (previous festival appearances on the last two tours) - so maybe anything's possible.

They might set up the stage in the middle of the arena and block off half of the seats that would then be behind the stage thus creating a half-size venue.

Is there any information on the London O2 & Livenation presales yet? Do you have to be a UK citizen or is an O2 subscription sufficient?
I am wondering what is the best strategy for buying Royal Albert Hall tickets. I have got some experience with buying tickets for bigger concerts in London and experienced why Ticketmaster is adequately called Ticketbastard or Ticketmobster. They start sales or presales and sell inferior tickets to the fans first. The best tickets they keep themselves and start selling them through their own ‘official’ scalping channels like Viagogo for much more money. When sales are slow, bit by bit the better tickets will come back from Viagogo and will be sold through ticketmaster.co.uk. On the day of the concerts the few really good tickets that are not sold for excessive prices on Viagogo and the likes will be sold for the regular price. After some disappointing experiences I bought tickets for Prince in the O2 a couple of years ago on the day of the concert while driving from Holland to London, front row seats that had become available that day for the regular price.
So I guess the O2 and Livenation presales might not offer the better seats.

I've heard (probably on here somewhere) that pre-sales don't always give you the best tickets. And the Albert Hall's a pretty big place. I do have a map of the hall as I have done some ticket stuff with them in the past. If anyone wants pm me and I can send it on as I don't know how to attach stuff on here!

Surely they could find a smaller venue in Finland? How's she gonna fill that?

It says on the ice hall website that the auditoria can be transformed to fit 50 to 1000 people; the ice area fits 2000. There are other venues in Helsinki, but Kulttuuritalo (1 388) is being renovated and maybe she thinks Tavastia (700) is too small. I think Musiikkitalo is mostly for classical music.

I don't know why I didn't think to do this sooner, but I just did a search for previous attendance figures for the Helsinki Ice Hall, and the lowest official number I found was a February 2009 Bloc Party concert. 2,828 people attended with a total capacity of 3,318.

A Slipknot/Machine Head concert from November 2008 had the largest capacity, with 6,671 people in attendance and a capacity of 6,975.

So yeah, there's obviously a lot of versatility with this venue. Looking at Tori's other dates on the tour, I'd expect her number to be closer to Bloc Party's. I doubt we'll get an official answer though, because Tori's European promoters/management have not supplied much information on previous tours.

Hi Ami, I've just brought up M7 108-110. Are these good seats? Thank you!

I think so. There are only 11 rows in the stalls, so you're about halfway, and you're the 2nd section away from the stage to the right as you're looking at it. The seats swivel so you can turn to face the stage, and it's tiered which I prefer to the arena. And it's much better than being all the way up in the circle!

I go to the hall quite often and sat in this area for a concert a couple of years ago. It's a good view, you're pretty close. I posted the seating plan in an earlier post. If you can pdf it you can zoom in and see all the seat numbers.

Scottish Woman
05-11-2011, 09:39 AM

K is the section. In your order reference it should say K and then a number, which will be your row. Then you'll have seat numbers (Between 49 and 101 depending on the row - it's the whole circular thing). Stalls are good seats for sound and proximity. Some folks say rear stalls are the best, I like side stalls, but it's just a personal preference.

This is actually pretty off-topic, but I find that Storm poem incredibly fucking condescending. There's nothing stupid or wrong about eschewing a traditional lifestyle/perspective in favor of something that might suit you better. Yes, I realize that the Storm character is meant to be ridiculous, but the narrator is ten times more arrogant, presumptuous and dismissive of perspectives that differ from his own than she is. There is a difference between bullshit New Age hippy-dippyism and genuine spirituality, and it would be great if the two weren't so frequently conflated and then dismissed.

Are the stalls in section L or K worthwhile buying? or will they be too fr back? (For the Royal Albert Hall)

K is directly opposite the stage so the furthest at the back for the stalls. Closest are G and O, with H and M one section further back and J, K and L furthest back.

I've never been to a concert at the RAH - so what are the recommended areas for best seats?

See the map (attached). I prefer side stalls, some say rear stalls are the best for sound quality. It's all a matter of preference :)

Looks as though I'll either be buying tickets tonight or in tomorrow's general sale. Bawbags.

Oh, and I've found www.theatremonkey.com really useful for London venues :)

Elkie, you may well have better luck tomorrow in the general sale anyway. The presale is only offering tickets in the circle now. From the RAH's tweet yesterday it sounds like they'll have stalls/arena seats on sale tomorrow.

Yeah, the RAH website has an interactive seat selection map, so you should hopefully be lucky with that. Try a dry run with a different artist to make sure the map loads.

Stupid question, but the RAH web site doesn't direct you to ticketmaster? You can book tickets directly from their site right?

If it re-directs me to ticketbastard in the morning and I can't get on, Ima face-punch someone in IT at my work :p

Yep, you can buy direct from RAH. You can normally choose your own seats as well on a planner thingy.

I would recommend you sign up for an account this evening so it's got all your details when you log in.

I don't know what seats I'll be after for the Royal Albert Hall. Usually when I see Tori I'm in the balcony and I get a nice view so maybe I'll try that again, or maybe stalls are better? Don't know.

I think that was the easiest ticket buying since 2005! RAH Stalls block H. Pretty close to all the action! For someone who said they would never go to another Tori concert after the last tour and won't be buying the new album, I'm a bit of a hypercrite!!

Loggia are the boxes, the lowest down boxes if I remember correctly (ie the best ones I suppose), check that on the plan though.

There are already LOADS of tickets for re-sale at huge prices on viagogo: http://www.viagogo.co.uk/aloud/Concert-Tickets/Rock-and-Pop/Tori-Amos-Tickets/E-353245

How utterly infuriating.

If anyone can give advice as to how good this seat is that would be much appreciated, I've never been to the Albert Hall, but it would appear that this seat is facing the piano.

I must say they were very nice on the phone, although I think they're a bit flummoxed with the demand for tickets!

I got Stalls K at one point too! (But I thought it was right at the back because the "Stalls" stalls are the Arena, aren't they? Confusing) But I thought it would be distant so I also panicked and ended up settling on the Grand Tier right side since I'd get to see her face rather than her back. ;l I loathe ticket buying at the best of times but Tori tickets are particularly stressful

Yep, I'm refusing to buy anything for Manchester at the minute as the seat selection is beyond crap. From the looks of it the central block hasn't been released yet. It infuriates me that TicketMaster have such a stranglehold over ticket sales in the UK, and a) seem to be keeping the best seats unreleased b) release optimal seats to their touting agencies. I tried to ring them up to rant but of course it's impossible to speak to a real-life human. Has anyone managed to get decent seats for Manchester?

Of the 5,000 odd seats the RAH have, a good number of the stalls and boxes are privately owned by the debenture holders so the hall can't sell them. Hence they sell out quickly. There are only a few concerts (Last Night of the Proms, etc.) where the hall has all the tickets at their disposal.

To buy a seat or a box costs about as much as a flat or house. Would be nice though!

Glad to hear so many people had trouble with the London sales.

I had my trigger finger on the F5 button from 8:58 and the *best* seats I got offered were in Circle V. Which is fucking ridiculous... how can they be the only seats available three-tenths of second after tickets go on sale?

On the upside I have fifth row for Hamburg, sixth row for Berlin and (for a change) front row balcony in Warsaw. Apparently I'll be skipping London... tempted to cut my loses and head for Luxembourg or something smaller :)
