I was trying to guess what she'd play, but there are no Tori songs about shark attacks. I guess she'll have to write one just for this show.

Eeep! Just 12 days till the US tour. Feels like I have so much to do before I'm off to NYC!

I'm thinking Lust might come out.

I have a feeling we might see a mix of songs that she played at the 3 J'burg concerts, since Cape Town is far away enough that they wouldn't have the same audience (for the most part).

I'm really into this setlist, actually. I love Concertina solo (especially a lot of the 2001 versions, like Oakland 11/11/2001), and Hey Jupiter came back alive for me when she added the strings in this tour. Plus, she could play a sorta fairytale every night and I'd be super content (.... omg like 2002/2003! hehe)

OMG how awesome was A Sorta Fairytale at one of the German shows(?) this year, when she played extra complicated piano parts. I think that song was answer to the record company when they asked her to dumb down her piano playing.

Jim, this is actually exactly what I was thinking about. I had an incredible seat for the Essen show, and there's something about SW that really hits me at an emotional core that is very different than the other Tori albums, and there was the whole travel and leaving Europe thing wrapped up in that version of a sorta fairytale, and it just opened up how deep and intense that song can be. So beautiful.

I have to disagree. Icicle was the highlight besides Sister Janet of the Atlanta 2009 show. It sent shivers and chills all over my body! And I'm not normally an Icicle-lover.

Seriously, I don't think we can EVER "expect" a recording. Even when she promises a recording has been done and will be released, it doesn't mean it will actually happen. I know a lot of these shows sound amazing, but I don't think Tori has set any kind of precedent for us to "expect" a recording. As far as I know, she hasn't given any indication that any of these shows are being recorded in order to be released (although I think they record all shows anyway, right?).

Anywho, this setlist is divine!

More speculation here, but... Apparently in one of the improvs at a Johannesburg show she mentioned something about not getting royalites for playing The Gambler, so she didn't play it?

http://www.citizen.co.za/citizen/content/en/citizen/lifestyle-features?oid=240181&sn=Detail&pid=146826&Queen--of-quirks (http://www.citizen.co.za/citizen/content/en/citizen/lifestyle-features?oid=240181&sn=Detail&pid=146826&Queen--of-quirks)

The first was about dreaming up a setlist while sitting in a hotel room, trying to avoid gambling and being upset that she didn’t write Kenny Rogers’s The Gambler and therefore won’t receive any publishing royalties should she play it.

This is really ridiculous if true, makes it look very amateurish to not mount cameras properly while filming a CONCERT. Didn't they film one before to know how people react in a concert?

Seriously! Her voice sounds better overall, but she really can still belt out those lower notes.

I think in general she thinks her "pretty" voice is her high voice, and she's clinging to it with dear life. It sounds better on this tour and album, but it's gonna totally rock when she just accepts that her most powerful voice is a lower one.

Uh, her vocal fucking ROCKED on that. The growling! the enthusiasm! That was great.

Amazing performance. And I know it's not the first time, but I really love how she's worked a line of Body and Soul in there without it overtaking the song. I think it's made better by her not actually singing "body and soul." Subtle. Great touch. And I will forever wish she'd do more song mash ups like that!

Oh, and I love the lyric change. "Be your own personal Jesus." LOVE.

In one of those recent South African interviews, she talked a bit about how she keeps her voice fresh, such as not eating for three hours and chewing cinnamon gum before the gig. I wonder if she's always done these things. The vocalist geek in me thinks that this tour, having more of a classical bent, has encouraged her to really focus more on vocal hygeine and maintenance in the ways that classical singers do.

I've been going on and on about this topic lately, it seems...just thwap me if I get annoying!
