I've recently listened to all the records up to SLG and I was a bit surprised to discover that the ones I enjoyed the least were SLG itself and UTP.

Lately, I've been gravitating to the first three.

Pele
Pink
Earthquakes

They're just perfect. They were perfect and relevant when I was a teenager, and at this point in my life, are still poignant pieces of work (and for different reasons).

;) Indeed.

I picked SLG because I find it to be an impressive piece of work that resonates with me slightly more as an adult than UTP or LE do now. Choirgirl, which was my favorite for years, has left me dead cold outside of Jackie's Strength and Playboy Mommy for some time now, and has fallen out of my top ranks considerably. :(

I like SLG, but I guess I don't consider a cover album (impressive production notwithstanding) to be a contender against the songwriting in her other records (up until TBK). Little Earthquakes was revolutionary. I actually fought with myself on whether to include it or not. Really, UtP/LE/Choirgirl are interchangeable depending on my mood. I do think UtP is the most personal and dear to me for nostalgia reasons.

There is nothing on SLG as good as Mother, for example.

While I agree fully, right now SLG does the trick for me more than the others do. UTP and LE are right along up there and would probably replace SLG on a good day.

A perfect evolution from one album to the next. Tori really was at the height of her powers; great vocals, music, production, artwork, concerts... 96-99 were good years.

This. Scarlet's Walk comes really close to kicking Venus off the third spot on some days. :)

Yeah. I appreciate the passion and craftsmanship behind SLG but I rarely listen to that album or even any of the individual songs.

My top three are Choirgirl, Pele, and then Venus/Pink/NOH.

Scarlett's Walk has always been my favorite album. Not just of Tori's, but in general. The other two change quite frequently. Lately I've really been feeling Choirgirl. More than I have in a while. So, for now, I'd say:

1. Scarlet's Walk - perfect, IMO. It's gorgeous, mature, poignant, and comforting. Everything works, even the artwork. There's not a single track I'd change, the production is fantastic, and the tracklist is perfect. I love this album so dearly, I even have a sw tattoo.

2. From the Choirgirl Hotel - I feel like this is an accessible album by anyone's standards, but it also has some great experimentation on it. 'Shes your Cocaine' is a side of tori I've really only ever seen live. It's smart, it rocks, and it has a great sense of humor. 'Northern Lad' will always be one of my favorite Tori tracks. There's not a single song on here that doesn't work for me.

3. To Venus and Back - Suede, in particular. I could listen to this song on repeat for hours. It's epic, it smolders beneath the surface. I don't love every track, but I think they're all good. And the live disc is great also.
