I will be there ='0 Just moved to Orlando this week and take classes in the CEM building across the street from the gig. Anyone want to meet early and hang-out? I'm friendly. Mostly.

This is the first time I'm getting to see a show outside of Atlanta. :D On top of that, it's my first trip in 3 years without my children, so I'm pretty stoked.

I'll be there! My first ever Florida Tori show!

I just got an email from the venue (I guess) about food trucks being at the venue a couple of hours before the show. [woot] I love me some food.

Super excited for the show! Considering going to the m&g. I have never been successful at any of them and I 've been to every show in the Orlando area since Kissimmee '94. It has been 20 years since my first Tori show, and I was pregnant, my son is 19 now. crap, I feel old. Maybe I'll wear my Under the Pink tour shirt!

About 130 to 140 people at the meet and greet. Line hasnt moved in 40 mins. Probably due to people taking their time with sob stories and such other things.

I hate to say it but I'm glad I didn't go to m&g. It is sooooo freaking hot and sticky. My husband took me shopping at Macy's for a consolation prize. Got a cute shirt on sale :). Still very excited for tonight! Hope everyone enjoys the show!

Tori met with everyone at the meet and greet (which was a lot of bloody people). She took the time to speak with, clasp hands, hug, (and sometimes high-five) every individual. She was super open and friendly.

The guy with the Chihuahua was also there. He made a costume change from a speedo to a silver sequin dress with a Santa wig.

People were polite though so no cutting line or other rude shenanigans. We did however wait in the heat for several hours before the venue took pity on us and let the crowd inside to wait for her arrival.

Will come back with thoughts after the concert =' 0

I would be over the moon if she played "Part of Your World" tonight.

There are food trucks outside. I may have eaten two cupcakes. There were playing "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover" by Sophie B. Hawkins outside. Had I met Tori, that would have been my cover request. Weird.

It's fairly laid back here so far. I obviously avoided the M&G for various reasons. I'm hoping for more songs I actually like tonight.

I would guess "Friend Like Me" from 'Aladdin'. She's overdue for playing a song dedicated to Robin Williams.

What makes everyone think she'd play a Disney song? I've seen her in Orlando every year she's toured and she's never done one. In 2005 our covers were Imagine and My Favorite Things.

I don't want to hear a Disney song.

Andyland

This tour she seems to enjoy doing crowd pleasers, things she hasn't done before, and things that relate to the city she's in...so for better or for worse, I think there's a chance of Disney :p

I would guess "Friend Like Me" from 'Aladdin'. She's overdue for playing a song dedicated to Robin Williams.

She isn't overdue for a dedication because there is no requirement to dedicate a song for him. Also, she played Marianne for the first time just a couple of days after he died so you know, you could argue there is a connection there.

I don't either. Is there a Harry Potter song with lyrics? lol

There are several actually. There were a bunch of them recorded for Goblet of Fire when the Weird Sisters (aka Jarvis Cocker) played at the Yule Ball. But those are most definitely not gonna happen. Nor should we want them to.

I'm not convinced there will be a Disney LL song but I guess if she is in the mood for a mash-up, part of one may appear.

I'm just saying that IF she was going to do some sort of dedication to Robin Williams this venue would make most sense. Never said she was required to. It is just something that has come up in prior threads about "Happy Worker", et al.

I wish it weren't just a key-altered version of the In Your Room loop, but I tend to agree. My only wish is that she were still doing the "don't want to lose" verses.

Muhammad My Friend is much improved from where it was last time!

Ryan
08-24-2014, 05:57 AM
Tonight was so much better than last night! Her piano playing was much more energetic and forceful tonight, and it was a bit louder in the mix than in Clearwater. Her lower register was a bit shaky at first tonight so she played it safe until she got warmed up, but then it was great.

My only complaints are still the cheap synths and the drum loops/backing tracks. The one on Talula is terrible. The synth she's using on Muhammad was so ear-splittingly loud and shrill that it made me wince in pain. It was such a welcome relief when she switched to the piano finally. She missed the "Moses I know..." bit and went right into "Ashre ashre," then got confused and stopped singing. It's kind of bizarre because that's the first time I've seen her mess up and not just seamlessly improv her way out of it. But after the brief pause she repeated the ashre part again. However, the energy in her piano playing and her voice makes that totally forgivable. I only wish the whole song had been played on piano like that because it would have been amazing.

Again, Girl has that same cheap synth that she's been using the past few years. The performance itself was very good, though.

Tonight's highlights were Little Earthquakes, Boys of Summer, and Hey Jupiter. She used the Dakota lyrics for Hey Jupiter. At the end, after she sang "And this little masochist is lifting up her dress / Is lifting up her dress... guess I thought..." she trailed off and seemed upset/emotional. She also started Hey Jupiter on loud, thundering piano and I got excited, but then she switched to the keyboard for the rest of it.

She did mess up a little bit on Wicked Little Town but it was a good cover, straight-forward and solely on piano. It took me a minute to realize what it was.

She said almost the whole set was requests tonight because she had so many, and she apologized to everyone who didn't get their request but told them it wasn't personal.

Tash was in front of me with Tori's neighbors and their daughters for the whole show. It was funny because the dad didn't seem into it at all, then she started Boys of Summer and he was like, "Oh yeaaaah!" and sang the whole thing quietly along with Tori, grinning from ear to ear. So I guess there was something for everyone.

omg, that hey jupiter is one of the saddest i've heard. such a great performance of that song! wow.

sometimes it sounds like she rushes through it and can't get off the stage fast enough, but that performance is absolutely heartbreaking.

I am in disbelief she did "Wicked Little Town." I first saw "Hedwig" around November/December of 2001, and it was just after I had seen Tori a bunch of times on the SLT -- and she was still touring. I remember being so enamored by the movie, and I loved the "Wicked Little Town" scene so much. I used to picture Tori playing the piano in that scene, and I was obsessed with both Tori and Hedwig around that time. But I think I always considered them as separate things for the most part. Tori had never mentioned the movie (obviously because she hadn't seen it until this year) and I don't think I had any expectations of the two being connected. Now, 13 years later, hearing her sing "Wicked Little Town" in concert just blows my mind. The lyrics and the song fit her so well. This makes me SO happy to see the two converge.

Who gave her sheet music and cd's and the movie and all? That happened, right? I kind of wonder if she might have actually... been.. reading? heh.

But seriously.. I think we should get to vote on the best LL performances and have her make an album. I would LOOOOOOOVE to have a proper B-side of her doing "Wicked Little Town." I think I would've died if I was at this show.

I wonder what made her decide to switch out the "ah ahhhhhhh" parts with "Wicked Little Town." Totally her choice of course, but I wonder if it was a technical thing, or if she just wanted to do it that way.

That would be me - I gave her a binder with the DVD, the sheet music, the mp3s, a cd with the songs, the lyrics, and then a bunch of other persuasive information. She had never seen the movie til last week and now she has seen it three times. Super super super happy.

As someone who did not know what that song was, I found it beautiful. I've seen around here where some wanted her to cover one of the songs from Hedwig, honestly, I never looked to see who or what it was. So thanks to your request, I'm going to watch the movie this weekend.
And the show was great. My husband has been coming to shows with me since Plugged 98, he said this was the best. I loved the show in 2001, but her playing was spot on. Muhammad was weird with the synth, my husband loved it. And he jumped every time she hit the piano. Made me laugh. The highlights for me were Space Dog, Little Earthquakes, Boys of Summer and Hey Jupiter. Oysters was so good. I still get goosebumps just thinking out that Girl, that song is just hummmm. Ruby was gorgeous. The backing tracks are so not necessary, she can play her ass off and they just drown her out. I really love Wedding Day and the backing kind of bummed me out. However the one for Talula made me wanna dance, but I'm not sure if that's a good thing.
All in all, bummed I didn't get tickets for the other 2 Florida shows, but super satisfied with the show I went to;)
