Below is a promo video I found of the new World Trade Center memorial and office buildings. It's truly beautiful. I can't believe it's only a year or two from being finished. I've also included a link to the WTC's official website.

Share your thoughts, opinions and anything else that comes to mind about this project and the event that preceded it.

In all seriousness, though, it was really humbling being in NYC off and on this past year and a half and seeing the scaffolding slowly rise above the wall. :)

Time for a cold douche of reality!

Only the memorial is slated to open in a year.

Only the tallest building (formerly known as "the freedom tower"; now known as WTC 1) is under construction; it's going to take at least another two-and-a-half years to complete.

The other two tall buildings have been canceled indefinitely and only their "stubs" (2-6 stories tall) will be built; they will house retail shops managed by SIMON, the suburban shopping mall developer...

The only thing good about the project is the Santiago Calatrava designed railway terminal for the PATH train.

Though, I imagine, because it is awesome and unique and a place for the public rather than mere retail (don't be fooled, though; of course, there will be retail, somewhere, in there), it will probably be canceled.

:)

Right now it's set to open in 2014. I wouldn't bet on it opening until, I dunno, 2020?

^ Thanks for clearing things up. Though I did some research after reading your post and they actually didn't as much cancel the two buildings you mentioned as much as they've postponed them until they can secure funding/tenants for them.

I can't believe it's only a year or two from being finished.

Should have been completed 5 years ago. A further testament to the irony of all these people getting worked up over Park 51. They should be worked up over the fact that corporations have diminished the "memorial" of this by roadblocking its being built due to their financial concerns. All the while, not even 100 feet away from this site, people are selling Chinese made American flags and WTC paraphernalia. Yeah...Park 51 is the REAL slap in the face to America.
