Weird! I just listened to that record last night (the very record pictured in the youtube video) and was listening to the sparse but reverby production on tracks like Lilac Wine, Four Women, and Black Is The Color Of My True Loves Hair and was thinking about how Nina has possibly influenced Polly. When I saw Polly for the White CHalk tour, they were playing Nina Simone while we waited for her to go on and I'm pretty sure I've read Polly mentioning Nina as an influence, so there must be some connection there. But yeah, it would be spellbinding if Polly released an album echoing the production style and arrangements Nina made her signature sound, but so much of that sound had to do with Nina's insane piano chops and distinct, rich voice, so I imagine it would be a difficult sound to emulate. I'm in the camp that would like to see Polly rock out again, but at this point in the game it's far more likely that she'd do spacey/ambient/dark, so you just might get your wish.

NEW PJ HARVEY MATERIAL TO FEATURE IN THE FILM ‘WHAT IS THIS FILM CALLED LOVE?’
‘What is this film called Love?’ a new film by esteemed film-maker and critic, Mark Cousins, will include new recorded material by PJ Harvey. In addition to featuring the song ‘To Bring You My Love’ it will also feature two new pieces of work ‘Horse’ & ‘Bobby Don’t Steal’. The film is described as a passionate 77 minute poetic documentary about the nature of happiness. Filmed in Mexico over three days, it begins as a film about the soviet director Sergei Eisenstein, and then, using his ideas, opens up to look at memory, landscape and the pleasures of walking. The film draws from a range of filmmakers and writers – principally Chris Marker, but also Virginia Woolf, Frank O’Hara and others – but aims to touch on themes that are relevant to a wide range of people – where joy comes from, the emotions involved with travel and homecoming, and the nature of solitude. A preview of work in progress will be screened at All Tomorrow’s Parties in London on May 27th. More info on the film can be found here https://www.facebook.com/WhatIsThisFilmCalledLove
! Wasn't sure whether to do this in a new thread or not. Two new tracks!

I'd die if she'd ever cover this cover:

My desktop, which had all of PJ's besides and live versions, just died. The hard drive either crashed or was affected when the power went out yesterday morning. I'm beyond sad...

A lesson in why it's important to back up everything. I have an external hard drive specifically for that. And they're not too expensive these days.

He needs no lesson, just some sympathy I'm afraid. In an electric storm all your precious external hard drives will fry as well if it hits home too close. You should have backups all over the world, in the cloud or whatever, best chance of surviving a geomagnetic reversal.

An external hard drive will not fry if it's not plugged into an electrical outlet.

I'm still not sure what happened. The computer is old, though, so there is a chance it died on its own. The computer was connected to an old surge protector, too. I have a lot of her b-sides burned onto CD-Rs, but who knows if my DVD drive on my laptop will read them since they're pretty scratched up.

    I will survive, though!

If the impact is close enough it will fry anyway, not unlike an EMP bomb. =/. If there's a fire in your house it may not survive as well.
