Give Me All Your Luvin' drops to number 51 in the UK

So far that makes it her second worst chart position ever in the UK (after Miles Away which reached #39 and not counting Revolver which wasn't a proper UK release)
Not a good start for the first single from a new album . . . .

Odd that it's done so much worse in the UK than the rest of Europe.

But then, it's generally doing better in countries that either A: watch the superbowl, or B: don't have English as their first language... maybe the lyrics ARE a factor

The UK singles chart has always been quite strange. An artist gets a Top5 hit while the subsequent release may not crack the Top 40 at all - and with a better song. You can't predict the predictable.

And also keep in mind that the song was prevented from charting initially because it was just a free track given with the album preorder. That's a major reason why it did so poorly in the UK.

Regarding airplay, I think that I only heard Gimme All Your Luvin' once on the UK radio station we listen to at work (Radio 1) I'm sure it must have been played more, but was never put on heavy rotation which will definitely affect it's overall promotion here - Unfortunately Radio 1 still has a massive influence on the UK singles chart.

I've not heard Girls Gone Wild on the radio at all yet.

Just found out that even if the pre-order sales for "Give Me All Your Luvin'" were counted, it would only have charted somewhere in the #20s region anyway - so that Wikipedia nonsense I read about "it would have been her 14th UK No.1" is just that - nonsense.

Maybe she's facing some kind of radio station rejection in the UK now for whatever reason, a bit similar to the backlash in the US around the American Life era...

the UK can't accept she divorced that Ritchie nitwit... They just can't.

    from tribe:

News is just in from the UK that Madonna's "Masterpiece" comes in at #31 on the airplay chart, with a huge 21.99 million audience from 272 plays, thanks to the support of BBC Radio2.

She's not unpopular by any means in the UK and I've never noticed any resentment that she divorced Guy Ritchie. But what the lack of success for "Give Me All Your Luvin'" in the UK says to me is not that people don't like her, but that mediocrity won't cut it as a lead single. BBC Radio 1 play is also a factor though, and they didn't playlist it to my knowledge. Whether that's because they didn't like it or because they're trying to chase a younger audience and think Madonna is not suitable for that is open for debate.

I still expect the album to do well though. I'd be surprised if it doesn't go to No.1. But I'm also surprised that she hasn't had a sizeable pre-release hit, which is the first time that's happened since the first album.

I was kidding about GR. But yeah, of course the song is lackluster, most people would agree. Some countries like it though, it's still #4 in Greece and #10 in Poland so... I guess they don't pay attention to the lyrics there...
