FAKE NEWS!1! has been trying to kill Tom Petty for years. I remember about 20 years ago, a local DJ started a rumor that he died. He played it completely straight. My mom burst into tears, as she was a huge fan of his.

Though it seems unlikely, hopefully he pulls through this.

ETA: His daughter posted on Instragram. He's definitely not dead. I can't imagine how awful it feels to go through what she's going through and have all of these publications race to be the first to call his death and memorialize him, just for the sake of being first.

His family is is confirming he died about 3 hours ago.

After my mom died, I played Wildflowers more times than I could possibly count. It's her birthday in about 15 minutes. So many feelings right now. My heart hurts for his daughter who was very publicly feeling everything one feels at a time like this.

    You belong among the wildflowers
You belong somewhere close to me
Far away from your trouble and worry
You belong somewhere you feel free

I posted this in favorite song thread in Other Musical Artists.

    Crawling Back to You:
I'm so tired of being tired
Sure as night will follow day
    Most things I worry about
    Never happen anyway

Somewhere, somehow, somebody must have kicked you around some
Tell me why you want to lay there, revel in your abandon
Honey, it don't make no difference to me baby
Everybody has to fight to be free, you see

I'm really sad. I loved his shows and his never-Trump stuff was insightful and entertaining. He has two little kids. I know he hadn't been well, but I didn't know he was that bad off. So young, only 45.

    Just 51. That's so sad.
Maybe for once, someone will call me "Sir" without adding, "You're making a scene."

Roy Dotrice One of those actors you see everywhere, but never seem to be able to remember his name.
And the ghosts that we knew will flicker from view
And we'll live a long life

Oh no He was "Father" on Beauty and the Beast (with Ron Pearlman) and I'd loved him ever since then. He was awesome in everything he did. How sad
You don't have to do everything all by yourself.

He also played Wesley's father on a very good episode of Angel, Season Five. (Except....well, no spoilers. ) But yeah, I remember him as Father, and he was great in that role. Good actor with a long career and a longer life. RIP, sir.
At my core, I think we're gonna be OK.

Gord Downie of The Tragically Hip.

So sad. I have fond memories of seeing this lovely band play on Canada Day in London (the one in England! ) in 2013.
