The Hillary article in NYMag is devastating.

There's another WaPo bombshell too. I think it's the Senate is requesting Trump campaign docs back through the summer, but right now MSNBC is focusing on Jared and I was engrossed in this wonderful story on Hillary in NY Magazine. It's really long and made me cry a lot but it's worth a read.

They talked about Easter, about how she’d like to fill some of those plastic eggs for the kids but Chelsea told her that Charlotte can’t yet eat jelly beans. Cuomo suggested doing “those marshmallow things instead.” It was all very ordinary and small-talk-y until you remembered that Donald Trump is president and Hillary Clinton is discussing the merits of Peeps versus jelly beans.
That almost killed me. Like it's almost 7 months later and I still have way-too-frequent moments of "OMG she lost" realizations.

eta: Kari beat me to the article

Not proof, but interesting. And meeting with these guys is NOT ILLEGAL. Lying about it under oath/on an affidavit IS.

I was making this point earlier tonight, that I've been sounding like a tin-foil person and every day more comes out that shows I was right. Or at least (from what we know now) not far off. It all seemed too ridiculous to be true, that we sounded like we were doing a left version of FOX "news".

And it could be all smoke and no fire. I could believe Trump is a useful idiot, that he's so insecure and stupid that he had no criminal intent. But... if not knowing intricacies of the law is no defense for say an uneducated urban black kid, then it shouldn't be one for him.

Malcolm Nance tonight was yelling. I've been watching him for months now and I've never heard him even slightly raise his voice. If this is making him lose his shit on live tv, I can only imagine what people still active in govt are feeling and it really does put the constant leaks into a different perspective. It's not sabotaging Trump out of some partisan bs but hoping that maybe one day one of these stories will finally make Ryan and McConnell do something besides platitudes and furrowed brows.

I'm sure she's being played as well. She's yet another in a long line of useful idiots. Whatever information she has will have at least a couple of blatant lies inserted among the facts. Then people can dismiss everything she says.

This is a good tweet thread about incompetence vs being compromised

I don't know what I personally believe other than I do think some are truly compromised and some are probably just stupid. I don't know where Trump himself or Jared personally fall. I think Flynn falls into compromised, Spicer and Conway into stupid. It's a spectrum. Miller and Bannon seem compromised, but they're such weirdos they might just be a true believers, for example.

I see a lot of MAGAers screaming there's no evidence of collusion, etc. But that's not the point. There's an APPEARANCE of impropriety with no obvious innocent explanation. That's what an investigation should discover, what criminal intent or accidental wrongdoings happened. And even if it's just a bunch of incompetents fucking things up, it doesn't mean they get a pass on the outcomes. We're being dismissed for talking about worst case scenario (which we need to do to show the urgency and importance of this) by people who believe Obama is a Kenyan Muslim. They just do not want to hear it at all and can't accept that even if it's all a big misunderstanding and Trump isn't compromised, just acting awful to gain favor from Putin in some alpha dog thing, it's a bad thing.

Personally, I think it's quite likely that Russians began lending Trump money back in the early '90s when his businesses went bust and he became too much of a liability for reputable lenders, and that over time they cultivated that relationship and gained greater control over him. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that I think blackmail is likely to play some sort of role in this. It's not that far-fetched. The use of blackmail by Russian intelligence forces goes back decades. (A little historical fact by way of example: the main reason that western countries, including Canada, the US, and the UK, used to interrogate and fire government employees suspected of homosexuality was because "homosexuals" were seen as very susceptible to Soviet blackmail. They were considered national security risks.) Trump - corrupt, selfish, rich, and influential - seems like an almost ideal target for blackmail to me. I strongly suspect that there'd be plenty in his background, whether of a personal or financial nature, that they could use as leverage over him. And Putin is, after all, a former KGB agent.

If people want to think I'm a conspiracy theorist, then fine. I admit it's merely a suspicion and I'm more than happy to wait for actual evidence to arise from the investigation, so long as Trump and his Republican enablers don't succeed in obstructing it. But to me, conspiracy theories are based on little or no evidence, like the Seth Rich nonsense peddled recently by FOX News, or the belief that 9/11 was an "inside job." In this case, the intelligence community is asserting that there is incontrovertible evidence that Russia launched an unprecedented influence campaign in last year's election, while we know that members of Trump's team met secretly and repeatedly with Russian contacts and lied about it, and that Trump has gone to some lengths lately to obstruct the investigation into those contacts. He also lied about releasing his tax returns. You don't have to be a genius to figure out that something might be wrong with the picture.

The rest is just speculation on my part, and I'll happily change my view based on future evidence.

I agree with this, but what I'm uncertain of is to what extent. He's clearly Putin's puppet, but is it in some showboaty, blustering, braggart way? Or is he literally taking orders because he owes them money/they have kompromat?

Firing Comey was obviously to stop the investigation, but was it because he thought he'd be safe or does he, in his tiny lizard brain, think there's no there there and really thought Comey was wasting everyone's time and money on a partisan witch hunt?

This isn't given him 12 dimensional chess credit. It's trying to figure out which flavor his stupidity is: knowingly compromised by Russia or grandiose moron.

It's smart to stay skeptical and entertain multiple possibilities, and frankly Trump is a *very* weird guy. So we simply don't know for sure right now.

But reports have indicated that Kushner, far from being a moderating influence, actually pushed for Comey's firing days after Comey showed an interest in expanding his investigation in both scope and resources. Now, only weeks later, we find out Kushner's under investigation. My money is on them having something to hide.

I don't talk politics with very many people. There have been times when I'm sitting at a bar minding my own fucking business sipping a beer while eating dinner when some random guy will start talking to me. Aaaaand if the conversation turns to politics I have to hear about how Hillary is a "crook." I am under way too much personal stress to start arguments with strangers but I am also so sick of listening to it. I've literally been listening to it for 25 years.
